One of the biggest disadvantages is the fact that they are often unable to produce the brightness of light that is necessary, in order to create a high resolution viewing experience. The halogen bulbs may also give a yellowish tone to the images or video that is being transferred, which is quite obvious and undesirable to most projector users.

However, there are many people that will be able to benefit from using older projector lamps. Many educators do not have the means to use digital projector lamps for several different reasons. Many teachers will want to use projector slides, which do not necessarily require the newer technology that creates a better picture, due to the fact that the slides are already of poor quality. This is why the choice of projector lamps, when deciding between old-fashioned models and newer digital models, will usually depend on the person and their personal needs.
